ABOUT TURANGI

Sitting on the banks of the Tongariro River,
Located centrally between Auckland and Wellington on SHW1 Turangi enjoys large inflows of tourists and holidaymakers balanced with a stable base of long term residents.

Turangi town centre has seen some significant upgrades in recent years with a Local Council sponsored multi-million dollar landscape and beautification project around main shopping areas,
a large new Aquatic Centre (five pools).

In addition there has been a privately funded New World Supermarket Upgrade and a Climbing Centre constructed.

The Tongariro River is widely acknowledged as the world's most productive Rainbow Trout fishery. More 2 – 3kg Rainbow trophy trout are caught in this river than the rest of the world combined.
